Assistant Field Manager

The Assistant Field Manager is responsible for the management of the contractual relationship with the independent contractors who deliver the Times’ products. Assistant Field Managers may be assigned to multiple distribution centers for gap coverage of day-to-day business as the need dictates. The management responsibility includes meeting service goals measured as complaints per thousand deliveries. Assistant Field Manager duties include the prospecting, selecting, and orientation of independent contractors. This position also has input in the hiring, oversight and mentoring of staffers including the training, performance management, and skill development of Field Assistants, Product Coordinators and Deliver Center Assistants. The Assistant Field Manager will provide guidance in the development of Field Assistants as well as providing input to the Zone Manager for (F.A.) performance reviews. This position assists with development, implementation, and management of the zone’s expense budget ensuring the company achieves its financial goals. Field Managers work to facilitate audience development by administering and communicating marketing and sales initiatives with independent contractors. Managers in this position exhibit solid interpersonal and problem solving skills in the professional relationships with all staff team members, independent contractors, and customers. Assistant Field Managers will conduct themselves with highest levels of integrity, respect and urgency. Assistant Field Managers will strive to meet customer expectations and special requests (i.e.: tube installation, newspaper placement, and product condition). On a daily basis, this position will be assigned tasks that will involve driving a vehicle for business purposes. Assistant Field Managers must have a valid Driver’s license, maintain an acceptable MVR, and provide their own transportation and appropriate vehicle insurance for business related driving tasks. High school diploma or equivalent required and college or management experience preferred.
 
  • Salary $26,790 year.
  • Full-Time position, works Third-Shift hours, typically between midnight – 10am.
  • Usual office environment.
  • Plant/warehouse/delivery center environment with possible exposure to noise, dirt and/or heavy machinery or equipment and vehicles.
  • Frequently outdoors or in warehouse environment, exposed to heat, cold, rain, wind and dirt.
  • Requires local and regional driving as part of the job.
  • Performs activities associated with the delivery of newspapers, assembly of product, loading of newspapers into a vehicle, and installation of newspaper delivery tubes.
  • Must be able to safely perform all physical requirements including:
    •  
      • Walking and standing, sitting, reaching, twisting, stooping and kneeling
      • Repeatedly lifting newspaper bundles weighing up to 40 lbs and similar physical movements
      • Pushing and pulling 4-wheeled newspaper carts weighting up to 1,000 lbs.
