The Role
The Assistant Field Manager is responsible supporting the field manager with organizing, planning and implementing strategy for the Home Delivery department. The position will be located at our distribution center in Tampa, FL.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages the prospecting, selection, and contracting of independent contractors dedicated to providing service and circulation growth results within the contractual relationship.
  • Exhibits excellent understanding of and ensures compliance with the terms and conditions of the Times independent contractor contract and relationship including daily interaction with vendors, staffers and customers.
  • Executes all administrative documentation, tracking, reporting and financial procedures pertaining to independent contractor fees and charges.
  • Active collaboration on the development and management of a Zone expense budget.
  • Manages the development and maintenance of accurate subscriber information and distribution lists.
  • Actively contributes to the overall success of Zone operations by providing leadership in a team-centric environment.
  • Oversees and assists with the delivery center function including opening and closing processes, collaborating with Product Coordinators to accurately distribute product while honoring ad zone integrity. Ensures that management is provided with a fully comprehensive D.C. Nightly Operations report with recap of the night’s events.
  • Interpret information and provide analysis to achieve improved delivery efficiencies in Delivery List sequencing and accuracy.
  • Provides input on hiring, training, coaching, performance management and provides supervision to Field Assistants in the implementation of their daily responsibilities.
  • Enforces all Delivery Center Requirements
  • Provides input on performance reviews for Field Assistants.   
  • Ensures all deliveries on open delivery areas and/or re-deliveries are completed with a high level of customer service as measured by complaint per thousand goals.
  • Understands service dispatch system is accurately and effectively utilized to guarantee optimum recovery efforts to subscribers. 
  • Positive interaction with subscribers in resolving service request or incidents in order to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Partners with HR and other resources as needed for appropriate handling of issues and policy interpretation.
  • May be assigned to multiple distribution centers for gap coverage of day-to-day business as the need dictates.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required and college or management experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license, maintain an acceptable MVR, and provide their own transportation and appropriate vehicle insurance for business related driving tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with staffers, independent contractors and customers.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and act on various forms of communication such as verbal, written, electronic, etc.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge and understanding of the Times contract with independent contractors for the purpose of communication, negotiations, compliance and contract management.
  • Ability to negotiate contracts and related fees with prospective independent contractors in order to keep open delivery areas at acceptable levels.
  • Ability to demonstrate problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to adapt and manage change to achieve positive results in a collaborative environment.
  • Effective time management practices leading to successful multi-tasking.
  • Ability to effectively lead by example.
  • Demonstrate advanced leadership skills with staffers and independent contractors.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of interviewing, screening and evaluation skills, as well as performance management and development in order to build a high functioning team.
  • Possess strong PC skills utilizing MS Office, email, electronic forms, scanning and archive retrieval.
  • Acquire a working knowledge of all Times internal systems (Delivery List, ICMS, Time Clock Plus, Burt, etc).
  • Competent in math, analytical skills and budgeting concepts. 
  • Ability to develop and update electronic delivery lists for the purpose of providing a high level of service to customers.
  • Must be able to complete deliveries to customers while achieving CPM goals for the department.
  • Requires hands-on problem solving with staff and operational issues on a daily basis.
  • Ability to show sound judgment in resolving problems which may require the application and enforcement of departmental policies and practices.
  • Effective communications and interaction with other departments to achieve collaborative solutions.
  • Adherence to department SOPs.
  • Salary $29,120 per year. .
